introduction - itc500 series
theitc500 series laser diode current and tec controllersprovide current and temperature control in one unit. the instruments provide a maximum laser drive current range of ±200ma or ±1a, and a tec drive current of up to ±2a (16w) or ±4a (32w). allitc500 laser diode current controllersexhibit exceptionally low current noise and low temperature drift, making this instrument one of the best performing combination controllers available. they offer a broad range of laser diode protection functions including soft start, interlock, short circuit when laser off, laser current limit, over temperature protection, tec current limit, temperature window protection, open circuit detection, and "no sensor" detection.

intuitive user interface
the front panel is divided into two major sections, the temperature control section on the left and the current source section on the right. laser current, laser voltage, monitor current, optical power, current limit, or reverse bias voltage for the monitor diode can all be viewed on the led display located on the right side of the instrument. the second led display, located on the left side, shows the set temperature, the actual temperature, the tec current, the tec voltage, the tec current limit, or the set temperature window.

calibrating the power display
the display of the laser power can easily be calibrated for direct mw read-out by adjusting the photodiode signal trim pot on the front panel marked "adj pd". please note an optical power meter is required for proper calibration.

monitor photodiode adjustments
the monitor photodiode can be operated with a reverse bias voltage to improve the frequency response; this may be required when modulating the laser at high frequencies. the constant power mode feedback loop can also be adjusted to accommodate different laser diodes.

external modulation
the laser diode can be modulated in constant current or constant power mode via an analog modulation input. the maximum modulation frequency of the laser diode is 500khz for theitc502and 200khz for theitc510. as a safety feature, the laser current limit cannot be exceeded during external modulation.

remote control option
theitc500series is available with and without an ieee 488.2 interface. the ieee version of the controller integrates a powerful ieee 488.2 interface to facilitate remote control and monitoring, and enhance speed and control capabilities beyond those of a typical serial (rs232) interface.
